If you’re anything like us, there’s nothing better than to find cheap holiday where miles and miles of beach stretch out before your eyes, crystal blue water slowly laps at the white-gold sand and the air smells fresh and new. You can just picture it...

...Problem is, when are beaches ever like that? Normally your mid summer holiday will involve spending two hours walking up a down a beach that’s packed toe to toe with other tourists who have staked a claim to their own tiny square bit of sand leaving none for you. The crystal blue water is full of people with rubber rings and toys the size of a small boats and the air smells like a lot of very, very warm holiday makers.

So what can you do to avoid going to the type of beaches where you have to keep one eye open when you sunbathe to make sure someone doesn’t roll you into the sea in order to get your spot? It’s really difficult to recommend any one single resort because it changes. A lot. You can have a resort that has an empty beach on it all year round but a single mention of the place on a British holiday program and you can guarantee you’ll be queuing just too even get a glimpse of the ocean.

The best way to find cheap holiday is to do some research online first, check comments on resort pages for your destination of choice to see what people before you have experienced but take careful note of that date – there’s no point finding 5 comments about how nobody was in the beach in December if you’re planning to take a trip in mid June!

If you’re flexible with your destination try to find somewhere like the Gulf Coast or Africa that have hundreds of miles of beach. The more beaches a country has, the more chance you have of finding a spot.
